Happy Children's Book Week, May 7-13!

Hi everyone! I hope you are celebrating Children's Book Week this year with your favorite reader. Reading to children, donating books to the schools and libraries you love, and helping young families find quality children's material is a great way to celebrate it. This donation goes out to our editor's favorite preschool and preschool teachers: Community Cooperative Preschool in North Andover, Massachusetts. She says that she first saw Social and Emotional Learning in successful practice at this school when her children attended there. Do you have a success story to share with us? How have books helped the children you love? Let us know. We love hearing what you have to say.

Celebrate Children's Book Week!

Did you know that Children Book's Week and Teacher Appreciation Week happen at the same time this year? They are both May 7-13. What better way to celebrate both weeks than to donate your favorite Cooper book (or the whole series) to your local library or your favorite teacher. Alexa and I had a nice opportunity to do just that recently. Memorial Hall Library in Andover, Massachusetts, is an active, fun place to be all year long. We learned that their children's summer reading program will focus on dreams and goals, and Alexa will likely do a reading of our newest book then. She can't wait!

Let us know what you plan to do for Children's Book Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. Send photos, too! We love to see all the new places Cooper and Me books land.

Cooper and Me adds Resource Guides to the website

If you receive our newsletter, you already know that we've added some additional resources to the Parents and Schools sections of our website. I believe emotional intelligence is so critical to children’s development that I've had the Cooper and Me team create FREE Resource Guides to offer every classroom and home. These Resource Guides have activities for each book’s theme, but you do not need the books to do the activities. If you already have the books, then you have more activities to add to your collection. The topics are:

  • Exploring Confidence
  • Exploring Friendship
  • Exploring Safety
  • Exploring Staying Connected
  • Exploring Goals and Dreams
The ideas, games, activities, and projects are all geared toward pre-K to 2nd grade classrooms, but many of the lessons can be easily modified for younger or older children and adapted to work with one child or a large group.

Our goal at Cooper and Me is to provide parents and educators with an array of resources that encourage meaningful dialogue and constructive problem-solving—what I believe are essential tools for building emotionally healthy children.

Look for Cooper and Me To Catch a Dream's Reading and Resource Guides in the Parents and Schools sections on April 1, when we launch the new book and celebrate its theme of exploring goals and dreams. I can't wait!

Cooper has two paws crossed for the snow forecast!

Cooper here! So so so excited about the snow forecast for New England. I am "paws"itively beside myself for some snow around here. Any other New England pups excited? I want to see lots of cute snow doggie photos this week. Post them on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/?sk=welcome#!/pages/Cooper-and-Me-Inc/214695101924101 ) or email them to us! For our friends without a snow forecast, just for you, we have some new winter coloring pages--click the Fun for Kids button.

I've got two paws crossed and have hat, sled, and snow toys ready by the door!

Welcome Wilma!

Cooper here. You know something exciting is going on when I take time away from outside to blog! Grrrr-ruff, ruff. Ready? Welcome Wilma, Team Cooper's newest addition! Wilma is a rescued one- to two-year-old Doxie mix. Everyone is in love with her... well, except Miss Kitty. But Miss Kitty doesn't much like anyone, so she doesn't count. Wilma Wilma Wilma, welcome! I can't wait for you to be in a Cooper book with me.
